Portrait In Time

Thanks once again to Betty Steve for
giving us this “"Portrait in Time"” of the 5th and 6th grade classes
from the old Volant
Elementary School. As you can see by the date on the photo, the picture
was taken during the 1939-1940
school year. If you have any idea of who these fine, young scholars
might be, please let us know.

The Yanks Have IT!

Pictured above are the New Wilmington
Little League Champs – the proud Yanks!
Front row: Manager, Chuck Yarletts; Dave Alter, Rob Carver,
Bill Nichols, Matt Pearson, Colin Boyd, Sean Hainer, Coach Bill Otto.
Back Row: Bob Gilliland, Chris
Yarletts, Duane Boyer, Todd Shearer, Jeff Kauffman, Brian Kauffman, Dave Batley, Bruce Baker.
Missing from photo: Coach Gaylord Kauffman and Danny Cooper.
In their game against the New
Wilmington Cards they had six runs and six hits against the
opposition’s two runs and
three hits. Todd Shearer came through for the winners with two homeruns
during the game. The following
day the Cards came back to win with ten runs against the Yanks one. The
Cards had five hits and the
Yanks totaled three. In game three-the playoff’s determining factor the
Cards and the Yanks battled to a 4-3 decision in the Yank’s favor so the
Yanks won the regular season League Championship, also the Playoff Championship. Congratulations
are in order to all the fine teams, but especially to the Yanks who were the first team to win both the
Regular League Championship and also the League Playoff Championship! Thanks to Chuck Yarletts
for giving us this photo of bygone times.
